To begin, make a chain slightly longer than desired length, turn. 1st row: D c in 6th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 ch, d c in next ch. Repeat from * across (sps divisible by 10). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 5 c in 1st d c, * s c in sp, s c in d c. Repeat from * 3 more times, s c in next sp, ch 3, ** s c in next d c, s c in sp. Repeat from ** once more, s c in d c, turn. 3rd row: Ch 10, sl st in 5th s c beyond ch-3. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: 15 s c under ch-10 just made, s c in next sp of foundation, s c in next d c, turn. 5th row: * Ch 2, skip 1 s c, d c in next s c. Repeat from * 6 more times, ch 2, skip 1 s c of foundation, sl st in next s c of foundation (8 sps), sl st in next 2 s c, turn. 6th row: Ch 2, skip 2 sl st of foundation, d c in next s c, * ch 2, d c in next d c. Repeat from * across, ending row with ch 2, d c in next s c (9 sps), ch 2, s c in next d c of foundation row (10 sps in all), turn. 7th row: Ch 8, skip 3 sps of scallop, d c in next d c, * ch 8, skip 2 sps, d c in next d c. Repeat from * once. Ch 8, skip 3 sps, sl st in next s c of foundation. Ch 1, turn. 8th row: Under each ch-8 loop make: 5 s c, ch-5 p, 5 s c; s c in next s c of foundation. This completes one scallop. Hereafter, work 2nd scallop as for 1st scallop through 7th row. 8th row: 5 s c under 1st ch-8 loop, ch 2, remove hook from loop, insert hook in corresponding picot in 1st scallop and draw loop through, ch 2 and complete 8th row as for 8th row of 1st scallop. Continue in this manner, joining each scallop to previous one as 2nd was joined to 1st.
