Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (3 balls) or J. & P. Coats (2 balls) Mercerized Crochet, White or Ecru, size 60.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 14.

Large Doily. Cut a circle of linen 8¼ inches in diameter and make a very narrow hem all around. 1st rnd: Attach thread and, working over hem, make a rnd of s c closely together. Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: Ch 12, * skip 4 ch, s c in next ch, ch 9. Repeat from * around, ending rnd with ch 4, d tr in 3rd ch of ch-12 first made (80 loops). 3rd rnd: * Ch 12, s c in next loop, ch 9. Repeat from * around, ending rnd with d tr in 3rd ch of ch-12 first made. 4th rnd: * Ch 9, s c in next loop. Repeat from * around. Join last ch-9 with sl st in first st of ch-9 first made. 5th rnd: Ch 3 (to count as d c), 10 d c in 1st loop, * 9 d c in next loop, 11 d c in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending rnd with 9 d c in last loop, s c in 3rd st of ch-3 first made. 6th rnd: S c in each of next 10 d c, * ch 8, skip 9 d c, tr in each of next 11 d c, picking up the back loop only of these 11 d c. Repeat from * around, joining last ch-8 with s c in s c. 7th rnd: S c in each of next 8 s c, ** ch 7, * tr in next tr (picking up both loops), ch 1. Repeat from * 10 more times, ch 7, skip 1 s c, s c in each of next 9 s c. Repeat from ** around. Join last ch-7 to 2nd s c of s c-group. 8th rnd: S c in each of next 6 s c, ** ch 6, tr in 1st tr, ch 2, tr in ch-1 between 1st and 2nd tr, * ch 2, tr in next ch-1. Small Doily. Cut a circle of linen 3¼ inches in diameter and make a very narrow hem all around. Work exactly as for large doily, but having 32 loops (instead of 80 loops) in the first loop rnd.
