Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (3 balls) or J. & P. Coats (3 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 20, White or Ecru.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 9.
¼ yd. linen 18 inches wide.

Cut linen 7¾ x 10¾ inches, and make a very narrow hem all around. 1st rnd: Attach thread and, working over hem, make s c closely together, making 3 s c at corners. Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: Ch 5, * skip 2 s c, d c in next s c, ch 2. Repeat from * around, making d c, ch 5, d c in center s c at corners. Join last ch-2 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-5 first made (201 sps). 3rd rnd: Ch 5, * skip 2 ch, d c in next d c, ch 2. Repeat from * around, making d c, ch 5, d c in 3rd st of ch-5 at corners. Join last ch-2 with sl st to 3rd st of ch-5 first made. 4th to 11th rnds incl: Repeat 3rd rnd. 12th rnd: * Ch 9, skip 2 d c (3 sps), s c in next d c. Repeat from * around, but skipping only 1 d c before and after each corner, and making s c in 3rd st of ch-5 at corners. Join with sl st. 13th rnd: * Ch 9, s c in next s c. Repeat from * around. Join. 14th rnd: Sl st in each of next 4 ch, * then, working over 13th rnd, make s c in 5th ch of 12th rnd, ch 7, s c in same place as last s c, ch 9. Repeat from * around. Join with sl st. Break off.
