Foot Stool Pattern #9027

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 9 balls of any self-shading or solid color.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.
An upholstered footstool 9 x 14½ inches.

Gauge: 9 sts make 1 inch; 4 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at one long side, ch 163 (to measure about 18 inches). 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each ch across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Thread over hook, insert hook between 1st and 2nd d c, bring it out between 2nd and next d c, and complete as for a d c. Make a similar d c around each of next 2 d c (thus a front 4-d c group is made, counting turning ch-3 as 1 d c). * Make 3 more similar d c, but insert hook from the back of work (thus a back 3-d c group is made); make 3 d c as before, inserting hook from the front of work (thus a front 3-d c group is made). Repeat from * across, ending with a front 4-d c group. Ch 3, turn. Hereafter repeat 2nd row until piece measures 12 inches. Break off.

Separate upholstered part of footstool from base, cover padded surface with crocheted piece, mitering corners. Tack or sew covering in place, and fit this part back into base.

For a different size footstool, start with a chain to measure slightly longer than length of footstool. Work piece to desired width.
