Square Compact Cover Pattern #2314

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. "Brilliant", 1 ball each of a light and a dark color.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8.

Top. Starting at center, with dark color ch 2. 1st rnd: 8 s c in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 s c in each s c around. 3rd rnd: * S c in each of next 3 s c, 3 s c in next s c. Repeat from * around. 4th rnd: * S c in each s c to within center s c of 3-s c group, 3 s c in center s c. Repeat from * around. Repeat 4th rnd until piece is 1¼ inches square. Break off. Attach light color and make * s c in next s c, picking up only the front loop of st; s c in next s c, picking up only the back loop of st. Repeat from * around, making increases as before, until piece covers top of compact. Break off. Attach dark color and, picking up both loops of each s c, make s c in each s c around. Break off. Make another piece same as this, for bottom.

Side. With dark color, ch 6. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece is long enough to go around 3 outside edges of top. Break off.

With dark thread, sew one long edge of side to 3 sides of top with over-and-over stitches, having right side of top toward you. Sew other long edge of side to bottom in same way.
