Curtain Pull Pattern #9007

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. "Brilliant", 1 ball each of Yellow and Green.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10.

Ear. Starting at center top, with Yellow ch 2 loosely. 1st rnd: 10 s c in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 s c in each s c around. 3rd rnd: S c in each s c around. 4th rnd: Ch 3 (to count as d c), 4 d c in same place as last s c was made, drop st from hook, insert hook back in 3rd st of ch-3 first made and draw loop through loop on hook (1 pc st made), * ch 2, skip 1 s c, 5 d c in next s c, drop st from hook, insert hook back in ch preceding d c's, and draw loop through the one on hook (another pc st). Repeat from * around, ending rnd with ch 2, sl st at tip of 1st pc st made (10 pc sts). 5th to 9th rnds incl: Sl st in next sp, ch 3, 4 d c in same sp and complete a pc st as before, * ch 2, pc st in next sp. Repeat from * around, ending rnd with ch 2, sl st at tip of 1st pc st. 10th rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 3, and complete a pc st as before, * ch 2, make 3 d c in next sp and 2 d c in following sp and complete a pc st as before (thus decreasing 1 pc st), ch 2, p c st in next sp. Repeat from * around, ending rnd with ch 2, sl st in 1st pc st. Stuff ear with cotton before piece gets too small. 11th rnd: Sl st in next sp, ch 3 and complete a pc st, * ch 2, 3 d c in next sp, 2 d c in following sp and complete a pc st. Repeat from * around (4 pc sts). Pull loop through, and break thread, leaving a 6-inch length for sewing. Sew opening neatly.

Husk. Starting at center, with Green ch 2. 1st rnd: 5 s c in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 s c in each s c around. 3rd rnd: * S c in next s c, 2 s c in following s c. Repeat from * around (15 s c). Do not break off. but make leaves as follows:

1st and 2nd rows: S c in each of 3 s c. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Skip 2 sc, s c in last s c. Fasten and break off. Make 4 more leaves same as this all around center, always attaching thread at s c next to base of previous leaf. (See illustration). Make a ch-10 loop and attach this to center of husk. Sew husk to top of ear as in illustration.

Cord. With Green, make a chain to measure about 12 inches long. Then, make s c in a ch st 3 inches from hook, * ch 5, skip 5 ch, s c in next ch. Repeat from * along chain. Fasten cord to ch-loop at top of ear.
