Break off light color, turn. 2nd row: Attach dark color to last tr made. * In back loop of next sl st make a shell, sl st in ch-1 of next shell. Repeat from * across, ending row with half shell in last tr of last shell. Break off dark color, turn. 3rd row: Attach light color in last tr made. Work across as for 2nd row. Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until 11 rows of light color raised shells are made. Then work another dark color row. Break off. Sew pieces together as in illustration, leaving 1½ inches free at each side at upper edge. Sew handle along upper edges.

Cords. With light color make a chain about a yard long, turn and sl st in each ch across; turn and sl st along opposite side of foundation chain. Break off. Find center of cord, and pin to bottom of 1½-inch opening at one side of bag. Sew cord along both sides of opening. Draw ends of cord out through opening at one end of handles, and in through opening at opposite end of handles. Sew ends of cord to opening to correspond with opposite side. This bag is reversible.
