Curtain Pull Pattern #9006

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 1 ball of Brown.
Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Six Strand, 1 skein each of Pink, Blue, Yellow, Green and Black.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7.
A bone ring, about 2½ inches in diameter.

With Brown, s c closely together in ring until ⅓ of ring is covered. Twist upper edge of s c's to inside of ring. Draw thread through last loop on hook and break off, leaving about ½ yd. of thread with which to work. Thread a needle with this ½-yd. length. Insert needle through 1st s c made, draw thread through; insert needle in next to last s c from end and draw thread through. Continue working horizontally across opening of ring in this manner (always drawing thread through following s c), until no free s c's remain. Break off. Then weave under and over horizontal strands, attach thread at s c's in order to keep work firm, thus forming a background on which to sew flowers later. Break off.

Attach thread at other side of ring (lower edge of curtain pull), and s c closely together until 1 inch is covered, measuring along opening of ring. Twist s c's as before.

Stems. Find center of 1st row of horizontal weaving; measure off ½ inch on each side of center, and mark with pins (1 inch marked off). Thread a needle with Green; attach thread at a pin-mark, insert needle in 1st s c on lower edge of curtain pull, diagonally across from pin-mark, and draw thread through. Continue working diagonally across opening of ring (between s c's at lower edge and marked-off section on weaving) until no free s c's remain. Tie diagonal strands securely together at center. Break off.

Flowers. With Pink ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: * Ch 3, d c in ring, ch 3, s c in ring. Repeat from * 3 more times. Break off. Make 3 more flowers in Pink, 4 in Blue, and 4 in Yellow.

Leaves (Make 6). With Green ch 7, s c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each of next 2 ch, s c in following ch, ch 3 and, working along opposite side of foundation chain, s c opposite 1st s c, d c opposite each of next 2 d c, s c opposite next s c. Sl st in turning ch. Break off.

Arrange 6 flowers (2 of each color) and 3 leaves on one side of woven background, and sew in place (see illustration). Finish other side in same way.

Cord. For a cord about 12 inches long, measure off four 1-yd. lengths of Brown, twist tightly, then double the twisted strands and give them a second twist in the opposite direction. Fasten cord to center top of ring.
