Glass Jackets Pattern #9019

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Pearl Cotton, size 5, 1 ball each of Red, Blue, Green, Yellow, White and Brown.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 5.

This material is sufficient for a set of 6 glass jackets.

Base. With Red ch 2, make 6 s c in 2nd ch from hook. 1st rnd: 2 s c in each s c around (12 s c). 2nd rnd: * S c in next s c, 2 s c in next s c (an increase). Repeat from * around (18 s c). 3rd and subsequent rnds: S c in each s c around, making necessary increases to keep work flat, until piece measures 3 inches in diameter. Work 5 rnds without increasing. Fasten and break off.

Border. Attach White to last rnd and, with wrong side of work toward you, make * s c in each of next 3 s c, s c in 3rd row from edge (1 long s c made). Repeat from * around. Join with sl st to 1st st of border. Ch 1, turn. Sl st in each st around. Fasten and break off.

Jacket. With Red make a chain about 7¼ inches long. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: S c in each ch around (to fit around glass snugly). 2nd rnd: S c in each s c around. Repeat 2nd rnd until piece measures 1½ inches. Fasten and break off.  Attach White and work a border as before.

Sew jacket to base, having edges of base turn upward.

Cord. Measure off four 48-inch lengths of White, twist tightly, then double the twisted strands and give them a second twist in the opposite direction. Tie a knot at each end, and trim ends closely.

Sew cord where jacket joins base, and tie in a bow. Blue coaster is trimmed with Red; Green with Brown; Yellow with Green; White with Blue; and Brown with Yellow.
