Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"STAR" PEARL COTTON, SIZE 5
1 60-yd. Ball White.
2 60-yd. Balls Red.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 or 8.

FRONT SECTION. With White, ch 46 and work 45 s c on ch.
2nd Row—Ch 3, turn, 1 puff st in first s c, (puff st: thread over needle, insert needle in st, pull thread through, thread over needle insert needle in same st, pull thread through thread over needle and pull through all loops but one, thread over needle and pull through remaining loops on needle) * ch 1, skip 1 s c, puff st in next s c, repeat from * across row ending row with a puff st.
3rd Row—Ch 3, turn, puff st in same space with ch 3, * ch 1 puff st over puff st of previous row, repeat from * to end of row, repeat 3rd row 3 times.
7th Row—Ch 3, turn, 2 d c in same space with ch 3, * 1 d c over the ch 1, 1 d c over puff st, repeat from * across row ending with 3 d c in last puff st. Repeat 3rd row 5 times, then repeat 7th row once. Repeat the last 6 rows once, break thread.
BACK SECTION. With Red, ch 45 and work 44 s c on ch.
Next 7 Rows—Work in s d c, working 1 s d c in each st. (s d c: thread over, insert needle in st, pull thread through, thread over and pull through all loops on needle at one time.)
9th Row—2 s d c in first s d c, 1 s d c in each remaining s d c with 2 s d c in last s d c.
10th to 18th Rows—1 s d c in each s d c.
19th Row—Same as 9th row. Work 9 more rows even, break thread. Join White and work 5 rows even, break thread. Join Red and work 1 row even, break thread. Crochet the two sections together with Red matching White to Red at lower edge and allowing the White of back section to extend above White of front section. Across lower edge work 1 s c in each st. up the side, * ch 3, work a puff st, skip the length of the puff st, s c into both sections, repeat from * 16 or 17 times. Across top work puff sts skipping 2 s d c, repeat sts down opposite side, break thread.
Applique berries or any fruit as illustrated. For applique directions see Pattern #3231.
Work single crochet over a bone ring and attach to back section.
