Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"STAR" PEARL COTTON, SIZE 5
4 60-yd. Balls Yellow.
2 60-yd. Balls Blue or any Color desired.
2 Small Buttons for Eyes.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 4 or 5.
(Entire Holder is worked with two strands of thread.)

FRONT LEG. With Yellow, ch 11, work 1 s c in second st from hook, 1 d c in next st, * 1 s c in next st, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * 3 times, ch 1 to turn each row.
2nd Row—1 s c in last d c, 1 d c in next s c, * 1 s c in next d c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * 3 times. (The last 2 rows form the pattern used throughout the potholder.) Work four more rows of pattern, then ch 27, turn.
7th Row—1 s c in second st from hook, 1 d c in next st, * 1 s c in next st, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * 11 times, then work across front leg, working 1 s c in d c and 1 d c in s c.
8th Row—1 s c in first d c, 1 d c in next s c, * 1 s c in next d c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * across row.
Work next 12 rows even.
21st Row—Begin Tail—1 s c in first d c, 1 d c in next s c, * 1 s c in next d c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * 5 times.
22nd Row—Skip the first 2 sts, * 1 s c in next d c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * 5 times.
23rd Row—Work pattern even across tail.
24th Row—Skip first 2 sts, * 1 s c in next d c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * across tail.
25th and 27th Rows—Work same as 23rd row.
26th and 28th Rows—Same as 24th row.
29th Row—Skip 1 st, 1 d c in next s c, * 1 s c in next d c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * once.
30th Row—Skip 1 st, d c in next s c, s c in next d c, repeat across row, break thread. Attach thread in last st of ch at lower part for hind leg. Work 1 s c in first st, 1 d c in next st, * 1 s c in next st, 1 d c in next st, repeat from * 3 times.
Work 5 more rows of pattern even, break thread.
Attach thread in 12th st from tail, work pattern across row, turn and work back, then slip st to next st, break thread.
HEAD. Ch 17 and work in pattern across ch.
2nd and 3rd Rows—Work pattern even.
4th Row—Skip 2 sts and work 7 patterns across row.
5th and 6th Rows—Work 7 patterns.
7th Row—Work 7 patterns, then ch 5.
8th Row—Work 2 patterns on ch and 7 patterns across remainder of head.
9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th Rows—Work in pattern even.
Break thread and work another section in same manner. With Blue, work two sections following the first 14 rows and hind leg directions.
COLLAR. With single thread of Blue, ch 7, 3 d c in 4th st from hook, skip 2 sts, s c in last st, ch 3, turn, 2 s c in same space with ch 3, s c over ch 3 of first shell, * ch 3, turn, 2 d c in same space with ch 3, s c over ch 3 of last shell, repeat from * until work measures about 7 inches, break thread.
To Assemble—Sew head sections to body. Sew the two Blue under sections together at top. Pad lightly, head, tail and body of Scotty as far as neck. Place the two Yellow sections together. With a double strand of Blue and starting at head where it is sewed to body, crochet the two Yellow sections together with single crochet, working around the head, across back and around tail. Fit the Blue under section in and crochet the Blue and Yellow sections together in same manner.
Sew collar in position leaving a loop at top.
