Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"STAR" PEARL COTTON, SIZE 5
4 60-yd. Balls Red or any Color desired.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 5.

Ch 5, join to form a ring, ch 1 and work 8 s c over ring, join in 1st s c.
2nd Row—Ch 3, 2 d c in same space, 2 d c in each remaining s c, join in 1st d c.
3rd Row—Ch 3, 2 d c in same space, 2 d c in each remaining d c, join in 1st d c.
4th Row—Ch 1, turn and work 2 loop sts in each st, (loop st: wind thread over index finger, insert hook in st, draw thread through pulling thread from under finger, drop loop from finger letting fall to right side of work and complete s c) join in 1st st.
5th Row—Ch 3, turn, ** 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts, thread over, * insert in next st, pull through, repeat from *, thread over and pull through 3 loops, thread over and pull through remaining loops, (a decrease) repeat from ** all around, join in 1st d c.
6th Row—Ch 3, 1 d c in same space, 1 d c in next st, 2 d c in next st, * 1 d c in each of the next 2 sts, 2 d c in next st, repeat from * all around, join in 1st d c.
7th Row—Same as 6th row but increasing in every 4th st.
8th Row—Same as 4th row but working 1 loop st in each st.
9th Row—Ch 3, turn, work 1 d c in each st increasing in every 4th st, join in 1st d c.
10th Row—Ch 3, 1 d c in each d c increasing in every 5th st, join in 1st d c.
11th Row—Ch 3, 1 d c in each d c, join in 1st d c.
12th Row—Same as 8th row.
13th Row—Ch 3, turn, 1 d c in each st increasing in every 3rd st.
14th and 15th Rows—Same as 11th row.
16th Row—Same as 8th row.
17th Row—Ch 3, turn, 1 d c in each st increasing in every 4th st, join, break thread.
Work back of potholder in same manner working the loop st rows in s c, break thread. Crochet the 2 sections together with a row of s c and finish with a loop as follows; ch 20, sl st in same st, ch 1, turn and cover loop with s c, break thread.
