Materials Required—
AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY
"STAR" PEARL COTTON, SIZE 5
2 60-yd. Balls Red.
2 60-yd. Balls White or Cream for each Potholder.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 6.

With Cream and using 2 strands of thread, ch 36 and work 35 s c on ch, ch 3 to turn.
2nd Row—1 d c in each s c.
3rd Row—Ch 3, (the ch 3 counts as one d c) * thread over needle, insert needle under next d c, pull thread through, thread over needle and work off as a d c, repeat from * to end of row ending row with a d c in the ch 3.
4th Row—Drop the Cream, attach Red, ch 3 and work 1 d c in next d c, * thread over needle, insert needle under next d c, pull thread through, thread over and work off as a d c, 1 d c in each of the next 2 d c, repeat from * to end of row.
5th Row—Work same as 3rd row, drop Red, pick up Cream and work 2 rows same as 4th and 5th rows. Continue working, following 4th and 5th rows, working 2 rows Red and 2 rows Cream until you have 5 Red waffle rows and 6 Cream waffle rows. Then work 1 row of s c across top working 1 s c in each s c. Work 1 row of s c down one side, working 3 s c in each 2 rows, break thread. Attach thread on opposite corner and work s c down side, then work one row of s c all around, working 1 s c in each s c with 3 s c at corners, break thread.
UNDER SECTION. Using one strand of Cream, ch 46 and work 1 d c in 4th st from hook, 1 d c in each remaining ch, ch 3 to turn. Work 4 more rows of d c in Cream, 10 rows in Red, 5 rows in Cream, break thread. With Red, work 1 row of s c all around, break thread.
With Red crochet the two sections together with a row of s c working through the back loop of upper section.
RING. Ch 15, skip 3 sts, slip st in next st, ch 1, and work s c over ch.
