40 yds. Red.
"STAR" SIX STRAND MERCERIZED
EMBROIDERY COTTON
3 yds. Green.
2 yds. Black.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 or 8.

With Yellow, ch 30 and work 29 s c on ch. (Ch 3 to turn each row.)
2nd Row—2 d c in first s c, 1 d c in each s c, with 2 d c in last s c.
3rd to 13th Rows—2 d c in first and last d c, 1 d c in each remaining d c.
14th to 19th Rows—2 d c at beginning of each row, 1 d c in each remaining d c.
20th and 21st Rows—Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of each row, (decrease: insert needle in st, pull thread through, insert needle in next st pull thread through, thread over and pull through 2 loops on needle, thread over and pull through last 2 loops on needle).
22nd to 25th Rows—Decrease 1 st at beginning of each row, break thread.
26th Row—Attach Red, decrease 1 st at beginning of row and work remainder even.
27th Row—Decrease 1 st at beginning of row, 1 d c in each of the next 22 d c, decrease in next 2 sts, ch 3, turn.
28th and 29th Rows—Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of each row, break thread.
Attach thread in center d c of 26th row and work 3 rows same as last 3 rows, break thread and work another section in same manner.
With Yellow, work 1 row of s c around each section, break thread.
With Red, work 1 row of s c around each section. Embroider face as illustrated and crochet the two sections together with a row of s c.
RING. Wind Green thread around finger 10 times, and work s c over ring, join to first s c, then ch 12 and work 11 s c on ch for stem, working on opposite side of ch, work 1 s c in each st of ch, work back on first side working 1 s c in each of first 7 s c, break thread, sew in position.
