Romeo and Juliet Edging & Insertion Pattern #8005
Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 10, color 106 Sport Green, 58 Dark Red, and 126 Spanish Red. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6 or 7.
Edging: With Green, make a ch desired length. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each st of ch. Fasten off and attach Dark Red. 2nd row: Ch 3, d c in each st across. Ch 4, turn. 3rd row: Skip 1 st, * d c in next st, ch 1, skip 1 st. Repeat from * across. (A row of sps.) Ch 4, turn. 4th and 5th rows: Sp over sp. At end of 5th row attach Green. 6th row: Ch 3, skip 2 sps, * 2 tr in next sp worked as a cluster, ch 4, sl st in same sp, ch 3, sl st in next sp, ch 4, 2 tr in same sp worked as a cluster, ch 3. Skip 3 sps and repeat from * across. Fasten off and attach Spanish Red, at tip of 1st Green petal. 7th row: * Ch 5, under ch-3 between petals work a cluster of 4 d tr, ch 5, sl st in each of 3 sts of ch joining clusters. Repeat from * across. 8th row: Attach Dark Red at beginning of last row. * 7 s c under ch-5, ch 5, 7 s c under next ch-5, sl st in 2nd sl st of previous row. Repeat from * across. Fasten off. Attach Dark Red at beginning of last row. 9th row: (Pick up back loop of sts only, on this row.) S c in each of 7 s c. * 3 s c under ch-5 loop, ch-5 picot, 3 s c under same loop, s c in each of next 4 s c, skip 3 s c of next scallop and s c in each of next 4 s c. Repeat from * across.
Insertion: With Dark Red, make ch as long as desired. 1st row: 1 d c in 5th ch from hook, * ch 1, skip 1 st, 1 d c in next. (1 sp.) Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows: Work sp over sp, ch 4, turn. At end of 4th row, fasten off. On each side of strip work same as 6th to 9th rows incl, of edging. Do not fasten off, but ch 12, * s c in top of next picot, ch 9. Repeat from * across, ch 3, turn. Next row: 1 d c in each st across. Fasten off, attach Green and work a row of s c in each st. Work other side to correspond.
Medallion: With Dark Red, ch 14. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: Ch 3, 31 d c into ring. 2nd rnd: Ch 4, * d c in next d c, ch 1. Repeat from * around. 3rd rnd: Ch 4, * d c in next d c, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Fasten off and attach Green. 4th rnd: Same as 6th row of edging, except 2 sps are skipped between petals, instead of 3 sps. 5th rnd: Attach Spanish Red. Same as 7th row of edging, but ch 6 instead of ch 5 between petals. 6th rnd: Attach Dark Red. Same as 8th row of edging, but make 9 s c, instead of 7 s c. 7th rnd: Same as 9th row of edging, but make 7 s c instead of 4 s c.
