Use Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 30 or 50; or J. & P. Coats Tatting Cotton, size 70—and Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8, 9, 10 or 11.

Braid: Ch 6, 1 d c in 1st st of ch, * ch 6 and without turning make 1 d c in circle formed by last ch-6 and d c; repeat from * for required length, ch 7, turn. 1 half d c in last loop, (ch 3, 1 half d c in next) repeat to end of row. 2nd row: Make 3 d c over each ch-3 and 1 d c in each half d c. 3rd row: Ch 3, turn. * 1 d c in each of next 4 d c, 1 d c in each of next 2 d c worked into a cluster, 1 d c in next, 1 d c in each of next 2 d c worked into a cluster, 1 d c in each of next 4 d c, ch 5, skip 1 d c, 1 tr in next, ch 5, skip 1 d c, repeat from * to end of row. Fasten off. 4th row: Join to ch-3 at start of last row, ch 3, * 1 d c in each of next 2 d c, a 2-dc cluster in next 2 d c, a 3-dc cluster in next 3 d c, a 2-dc cluster in next 2 d c, 1 d c in each of next 2 d c, ch 3, 1 d c in 3rd st of next ch-5, ch 3, 1 d c in tr, ch 3, 1 d c in 3rd st of next ch-5, ch 3, repeat from * to end of row. Fasten off.
5th row: Join to ch-3 at start of last row, ch 3, * 1 d c in each of next 5 d c leaving 1 loop of each on hook, making 6 loops, thread over and draw through 3 loops, 1 d c in next d c, leaving 1 loop on hook, thread over and draw through 3 loops, 1 d c in next d c, leaving 1 loop on hook, thread over and draw through remaining 5 loops on hook, (ch 4, 1 d c in next d c) 3 times, ch 3. Repeat from * to end of row. Fasten off. 6th row: Join again to tip of 1st point, (ch 5, 1 d c in next d c) 3 times, ch 5, 1 s c in tip of next point. Continue to end of row. Fasten off. 7th row: Cover each scallop with (5 s c over ch-5, 1 s c in d c) twice, ch 5, a Clones knot of 8 loops over ch (to make Clones knot see Talking Tiger Lily Edging), 1 s c in same last d c, 5 s c under next ch, l s c in d c, 5 s c under next ch, 1 s c in tip of point. Fasten off.
