Birthday Cake Edging & Insertion Pattern #8089

This free pattern originally published in:
Spool Cotton #56, The Book of Edgings 
Materials: Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 10. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6 or 7.
Edging: Ch 26, turn. 1st row: D c in 9th ch from hook, 3 bls, 1 sp, 1 bl, 1 sp. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: 1 sp (made by turning ch), 1 bl, 1 sp, 3 bls, 1 sp, ch 2, tr tr in same st in which last d c was worked, ch 7, turn. 3rd row: D c at base of turning ch, 2 bls, 3 sps, 2 bls, 1 sp, ch 5, turn. Continue work, following block pattern. When edging is desired length, work along scallops as follows: 5 s c under each sp, 2 s c under sp between scallops.
Insertion: Ch 32, turn. 1st row: D c in 9th ch from hook, 2 bls, 3 sps, 2 bls, 1 sp, ch 5, turn. Continue work, following block pattern.
