Use Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 30 or 50; or J. & P. Coats Tatting Cotton, size 70—and Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8, 9, 10 or 11.

To make stars, with White, * ch 5, a 2 d c-cluster in 1st st of ch, a ch-4 picot in top of d c, ch 4, 1 sl st at base of cluster. Repeat from * 5 more times, 1 sl st in st at start of row. Fasten off. Join stars by 1 point. To join, substitute for the ch-4 p on 1 point, ch 2, 1 sl st in tip of a point of previous star, ch 2, 1 sl st back in top of d c. Repeat for desired length. With colored thread, ch 6, a Clones knot of 9 loops over ch. (To make Clones knot, see Talking Tiger Lily Edging.) 1 sl st in 1st st of ch. Fasten off and sew in center of each star.
Heading row: Attach White to right-hand point at top of 1st star, ch 13, d c in next point. * Ch 4, 1 d c in 1st point of next star, ch 10, 1 d c in 2nd point of same star. Repeat from * across and fasten off. 2nd row: Attach thread to 3rd st of ch-13 at beginning of last row, ch 6, skip 2 sts of ch, 1 d c in next, * ch 4, skip 4 sts of ch, 1 d c in next, ch 2, 1 d c in next d c, 4 d c under next ch, 1 d c in next d c, ch 2, skip 2 sts of next ch, 1 d c in next st. Repeat from * across.
Edge: Attach thread to 1st point at lower edge of 1st star. * Ch 2, a ch-5 picot, ch 4, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, 1 s c between 3rd and 4th p's from hook, ch 2, p, ch 3, 1 s c in 2nd point of same star, ch 2, p, ch 4, 1 s c in 1st point of next star. Repeat from * and fasten off.
