Use Clark's O.N.T. or J. & P. Coats Mercerized Crochet, size 30 or 50; or J. & P. Coats Tatting Cotton, size 70—and Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8, 9, 10 or 11.

Ch 30, 1 tr in 13th st of ch from beginning, ch 10, 1 tr in 7th st of original ch, ch 5, 1 tr in 1st st of original ch, ch 17, turn; 1 s c under center of ch-10 loop, ch 11, skip 5 sts of end ch, 1 tr in next, ch 11, turn, 1 tr in 6th st of ch-11 of last row, ch 5, 1 tr in 6th st of next ch, ch 5, skip 5 sts of same ch, 1 tr in next. Now work around diamond with a row of scallops, putting (1 half d c, 5 d c, 1 half d c) over each sp, with 1 s c in st between ch's. Put a ch-6 p at each corner between 2 scallops. Fasten off. Make another diamond. At one corner, in place of the ch-6 p of last row, ch 3, 1 sl st in corner ch-6 p of previous diamond, ch 3, 1 sl st back in s c on last diamond. Then make 1 more scallop on same diamond, ch 20, 1 sl st back in previous diamond between 1st and 2nd scallops from joining, ch 1, turn, (6 s c, a ch-5 p) 3 times, 6 s c over ch-20 loop, 1 sl st in last s c on last diamond, then finish remainder of scallops of last diamond. Fasten off. Join all diamonds in same way by diagonally opposite corners.
Heading row: Join to top p of 1st diamond, ch 20, 1 d c in middle p of loop between diamonds, * ch 17, 1 d c in top corner of next diamond, ch 17, 1 d c in middle p of next loop, repeat from *. Fasten off.
Clones Knot: Ch 6, a Clones knot of 8 loops over ch (to make a Clones knot, thread over, insert hook in 1st ch and draw out a loop forward and up and thread over again as for a d c. Continue to catch up loops from over and under the ch 8 times, until there are 16 loops on hook. Draw thread through all loops on hook at once, thread over, and draw thread through loop on hook, and finally make a s c around ch at base of knot, drawing tight. Make knot evenly and rather loosely), 1 sl st in 1st st of ch, (ch 5, a knot, 1 sl st in same 1st st of 1st ch) 3 times. Fasten off. Sew a Knot Flower in center of each diamond.
