Guest of Honor Edging Pattern #8049

Bath and Boudoir

Here are new ideas for trimming your "extra special" linens. J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, sizes 30 and 50, are popularly used. Edgings and insertions crocheted of Clark's O.N.T. "Brilliant" have a rich, lustrous effect. For delicate laciness, use J. & P. Coats Tatting Cotton, size 70, or fine sizes of Mercerized Crochet.

Bath towel edgings are attractively made of Pearl Cotton, size 5, Clark's O.N.T. Cronita and J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen—using Milward's steel crochet hook No. 5, 6 or 7.

To make motifs, with white, ch 10, 1 sl st in 1st st of ch to form ring. 1st rnd: 13 s c in ring. Work following rnds in back loops only. 2nd rnd: * 2 s c in next s c, 1 s c in next. Repeat from * around. 3rd rnd: Increase by working 2 s c in every 3rd st. (Do not work increases over each other, to keep motif round, not pointed.) 4th rnd: Increase by working 2 s c in every 4th st. 5th rnd: 2 s c in every 5th st. 6th rnd: 2 s c in every 6th st. 7th rnd: 2 s c in every 7th st. 8th rnd: * 7 s c, a ch-6 picot, 1 s c in same st with last s c. Repeat from * 7 more times. End rnd with 3 s c. 9th rnd: * Ch 3, a ch-5 p, ch 5, p, ch 4, 1 s c between next 2 p's on edge of motif. Repeat from * 7 more times and fasten off. Join to center of 1 p-loop (ch 3, p, ch 5, p, ch 4, 1 s c in next loop) 8 times. Fasten off. ** Make another motif with the 2 rows of p-loops around it, but do not fasten off at end of last rnd.

Banding: Ch 3, p, ch 5, p, ch 5, p, ch 4, 1 s c in next loop (this is a "double-p-loop"). Then, ch 3, p, ch 5, p, ch 4, 1 s c in next loop (this is a "single-p-loop"). Make another double-p-loop, turn. 1 s c in last loop, a single-p-loop, 1 s c between 1st 2 p's of next loop. Repeat the last 2 loops. Then ch 3, p, ch 5, p, ch 3, turn. 1 s c in a loop of 1st motif, ch 3, p, ch 4, 1 s c in next loop of banding, ch 3, p, ch 3, 1 s c in next loop of 1st motif, ch 3, p, ch 4, 1 s c between 1st 2 p's of end loop of banding. Then make a single-p-loop, turn. 1 s c in s c previous to next p-loop on 1st motif. Fasten off. Skip the next 6 p-loops around same 1st motif, attach thread to following s c. (A single-p-loop, 1 s c in next loop along side of banding) twice, another single-p-loop, skip next 2 p's, 1 s c in next s c. Fasten off. Repeat from ** for desired length. In this and all following motifs, the 1st p-loop of 4th row of banding will be joined to the 3rd loop on previous motif, counting from end of 1st strip of banding. When desired length is finished, there will be on each side of lace 2 p-loops on motif and 3 along banding.

Heading row: Attach thread to 1st loop of 1st motif, ch 3 (to count as d c). * Ch 15, 1 d c in next p-loop, ch 11, 1 tr in next loop or 1st loop of banding, ch 11, 1 d c in next loop, ch 11, 1 tr in next, ch 11, 1 d c in next or 1st loop of next motif. Repeat from * to end of row. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Skip 2 sts of ch, 1 d c in next, * ch 2, skip 2 sts, 1 d c in next, repeat from * to end of row. Repeat heading row on opposite side of lace. With colored thread, ch 6, a Clones knot of 9 loops over ch (to make Clones knot, see Talking Tiger Lily Edging Pattern), 1 sl st in 1st st of ch. Fasten off and sew in center of each motif.
