These medallions make lovely decorations for bed linens, towels, luncheon sets, chair sets, and, if made of very fine thread, for handkerchiefs. For a medium size medallion, for bed linens, etc., use "Silkine" Crochet Cotton in size 30 with a No. 12 hook; for a finer medallion use size 50 with a No. 14 hook. For handkerchiefs use size 100, with a size 14 hook, crocheting very tightly. Gem Crochet Cotton is also lovely. For use with coarse linen, nothing is lovelier than De Luxe or Gem Ready-Shrunk Mercerized Cotton, and with these use a No. 7 hook.

1st row: Ch 3, j for r, ch 1, 7 s sts in r, j to ch-1. 2nd row: Ch 1, 2 s sts in each s st of last row, j (16). 3rd row: Ch 9, * sk 1 s st, 1 d tr in next s st, ch 5. Repeat from * around, j in 4th st of ch-9. (8 d tr). 4th row: Ch 1, (3 s sts, p, 3 s sts) in each sp, 1 s st in each d tr of last row, j to ch-1 with sl st. 5th row: Ch 11, * 1 tr in s st of last row which is in the d tr of 3rd row, ch 7. Repeat from * around, j in 3rd st of ch-11 with sl st. 6th row: * Ch 14, sl st in 12th st from hook for r, (5 s sts, p, 11 s sts, p, 5 s sts) in r, sl st down to sp, 9 s sts in sp, ch 1, turn, 1 s st in each next 7 s sts, ch 1, turn, 1 s st in each next 6 s sts, turn. Continue working in same way, dropping off 1 s st on each row until there is only 1 s st in last row, sl st down left side to the next tr of last row. Repeat from * around. Do not sl st down side of last point. 7th row: Ch 11, * 1 tr in center s st of r, ch 11, 1 s st in point of next point. Repeat from * around. 8th row: (10 s sts, p, 5 s sts) in loop, * 1 s st in tr of last row, (5 s sts, p, 10 s sts) in next loop, 5 s sts in next loop, ch 5, turn, sl st in 5th s st on last loop, turn, (4 s sts, p, 4 s sts) on loop just made, 5 s sts, p, 5 s sts on unfinished loop. Repeat from * around.
