Clones Knot Edge Pattern #10

The edgings shown on these pages were all crocheted of "Silkine" Crochet Cotton in size 50, with a No. 14 steel crochet hook. However, any of the following threads may be used, depending on the use the worker wishes for the finished piece, and the number of hook mentioned is the most practical. With "Silkine" Pearl Cotton No. 3 use a No. 5 hook; with size 5, use a No. 6 hook. With Star Crochet Cord use a No. 5 hook. With "Silkateen-Sansilk" use a No. 8 steel hook. These threads come in many attractive colors and tones, so the edgings may fit in with the existing color scheme. Gem Mercerized Crochet Cotton is also lovely. Gem or De Luxe Ready-Shrunk Mercerized Cotton is appropriate when coarser edgings are desired. With this use a No. 7 hook.

* Ch 18. Then make an extra large clones knot of 40 loops over half of ch, omitting the final sc around ch, as follows: After the 40 loops are on hook, pull thread through and make a ch st, pulling the knot as tightly as possible and pressing into a half-circle. Repeat from * for about twice required length. 2nd row: Ch 9, 1 tr under the single thread loop at top of last knot, (ch 4, 1 sc in center st of ch between knots, ch 4, 1 tr under single thread loop at top of next knot) repeated. 3rd row: Turn, (ch 5, 1 tr in next tr, ch 5, 1 sc in next sc) repeated. 4th row: Ch 10, turn; 1 sc in last tr, (ch 8, 1 sc in next tr) repeated.
