MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Knitting Worsted, scraps of Red. White and Blue, or 1 ball of a solid color (if one color is used, follow directions disregarding change of colors) ... Bone Crochet Hook No. 5 ... Cotton batting.

Starting at one end with White, ch 4. 1st rnd: 9 dc in 4th ch from hook. Insert hook in top st of start­ing chain, drop White and draw through a loop of Red. 2nd rnd: With Red, ch 1, sc in same place as sl st,* 2 sc in next dc (an inc), sc in next dc. Repeat from * around (15 sc). Sl st in 1st sc, dropping Red and draw­ing up a loop of White. 3rd rnd: With White, sc in each st around, in­creasing 5 sc evenly around (20 sc). Join as before, drawing up a loop of Blue. 4th rnd: Sc in each sc around (20 sc). Join, drawing up a loop of White. 5th rnd: Ch 3, * 2 dc in next sc (an inc), dc in next sc. Repeat from * around (30 dc). Join, draw­ing up Red. 6th rnd: Sc in each dc around (30 sc). 7th rnd: Sc in each sc around, increasing 10 sc evenly around (40 sc). Join, drawing up Blue. 8th rnd: Sc in each sc around (40 sc). Join, drawing up White. Break off Blue. 9th rnd: Ch 3, dc in each sc around (40 dc). Join, drawing up Red. Break off White. 10th rnd: Sc in same place as sl st and in each dc around (40 sc). Join and break off.

This is half of ball. Work other half in same manner, using Blue where Red was previously used and Red where Blue was used. With double strand of White, sew together the 2 halves with over-and-over sts, stuff­ing firmly with cotton batting before opening becomes too small.
