MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 3 balls (¾ oz. balls) ... J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Six Strand Embroidery Floss, 1 skein of Black ... Bone Cro­chet Hook No. 5 ... Cotton batting ... 2 black ball buttons ... 1½ yards of ribbon.

Use yarn double throughout

BODY ... Starting at bottom, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc). 3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around (18 sc). 4th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Repeat from * around (24 sc). 5th rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * around (30 sc). Sl st in next sc. Turn and work in pat­tern as follows: 1st rnd: * Insert hook in next st, holding hook between thumb and forefinger of left hand, with right hand place yarn over hook and over left forefinger, then place yarn over hook only, transfer yarn to left hand and draw the last 2 yarn overs on hook through the st where hook was inserted, yarn over hook and draw through all loops on hook (a loop st made). Remove finger from loop. Re­peat from * around. 2nd rnd: Make a loop st in each loop st around. Repeat 2nd rnd until piece measures 3 inches from 1st rnd of loops. Next 2 rnds: Work as before but dec 3 sts evenly around on each rnd—to dec 1 st, skip 1 st. Last rnd: Make a loop st in each st around. Break off.

HEAD ... Ch 2. 1st rnd: Make 6 loop sts in 2nd ch from hook. Work in loop st pattern, increasing 6 loop sts evenly apart in 2nd and 3rd rnds and 7  loop sts in the 4th rnd—to inc a loop st, make 2 loop sts in 1 st (25 loop sts in 4th rnd). Now work as before but without increasing until piece measures 3 inches from starting ch-2. Break off.

LEG (Make 4) ... Starting at tip of paw, ch 2. 1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 3rd rnd: Sc in each sc around. 4th to 7th rnds incl: Work a loop st in each st around. Break off.

TAIL ... Starting at tip, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 loop sts in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 loop sts in each st around. 3rd to 8th rnds incl: Make a loop st in each st around. Break off.

EAR (Make 2) ... Ch 10. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Make a loop st in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until there are 7 loop rows. Break off.

NOSE ... Starting at tip, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd to 5th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around. Break off at end of 5th rnd.

Stuff body, head, nose, legs and tail firmly with cotton batting. Sew head to body. Sew nose, legs and tail in place. Turn under both long edges of each ear for ½ inch and sew. Sew ears in place. Sew ball buttons in place for eyes.

With Six Strand, ch 2. 1st rnd: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. Break off. Sew this circular piece to tip of nose. Tie ribbon around neck, forming a bow on left side.
