MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 24 balls (¾ oz. balls) ... Bone Crochet Hook No. 5.

Starting at narrow end, make a chain 40 inches long (11 ch sts to 2 inches). Work tr's loosely throughout. 1st row: In 5th ch from hook make 4 tr, ch 1 and 4 tr (a shell made), * skip 3 ch, sc in next ch, skip 3 ch, in next ch make 4 tr, ch 1 and 4 tr. Repeat from * across until row measures 33 inches, ending with skip 3 ch, 4 tr in next ch (half shell made at end of row). Cut off remaining chain. Turn. 2nd row: * Skip half shell, in sp be­tween 2nd and 3rd tr's of next shell make 4 tr, ch 1, then, working over 4 tr just completed make 4 tr between 2nd and 3rd tr's of half shell just skipped, sc in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * across, ending with half shell between 2nd and 3rd tr's of second half of last shell. Turn. Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 47 inches in all. Last row: * 4 dc in next sc, sc in next ch-1 sp. Repeat from * across, ending with 4 dc in last St. Do not break off but work around all outer edges as follows: 1st rnd: Sc closely around, making 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st. 2nd and 3rd rnds: Sc in back loop of each sc around, making 3 sc in back loop of center sc at each corner. Join. 4th rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * skip 3 sc, shell in back loop of next sc, skip 3 sc, sc in back loop of next sc. Repeat from * around, making a shell in back loop of each corner sc. Break off.
