Chenille rug appearance in double crochet—it’s heavier and sturdier than chenille—more durable too. Ridged crochet makes for weight —it's two layers of crochet—the top surface arched upwards by shorter stitches on the back, making rugs that will lay flat—not get out of shape easily.

Size 21 x 41 inches.

Materials — The original was in three shades of blue — the center strip Lt. Blue (Color C — 5 balls). The side strips Medium Blue (Color A — 7 Balls). The border and design in Dk. Blue (Color B — 3 Balls).

Change this to the colors used in your bath or bedroom color scheme. It will be beautiful with design in Green, Rose or Orchid (3 Balls for color B) on an Ivory or Tearose background (12 balls for color A & C). When 2 colors are used carry the second color under sts, drawing up the yarn being carried to insure its not looping on wrong side. In changing color, pick up the second color when completing the last st of first.

With Color A, ch 207, and work 206 sc on ch.

Narrow Rib—Ch 2, turn, 1 dc in 1 loop of each sc. Ch 1, turn, * thread over for a dc, insert hook thru back loop of dc and down at back into remaining loop of st directly below in previous row, catch thread and pull thru, (thread over and draw thru 2 loops) twice, completing dc. Repeat from * in each dc to end of row.

Wide Rib—Ch 3, turn, 1 dc in 1 loop of each dc. Ch 1, turn and make 1 dc in remaining loop of each dc of last rib, sl st in starting 3-ch. Ch 2, turn, 1 dc in 1 loop of each dc across to end. Skip 1-ch at end of previous row, ch 1, turn, 1 dc thru back loop of last dc and down at back thru a single loop of first dc in back row, (1 dc thru next dc on both front and back rows, fastening them together) repeated to end.

Rug is made of Narrow and Wide Ribs alternated.

Make a final Wide Rib and a Narrow Rib in Color A. Continue around 2 ends and other side of rug with 1 row of sc. Across ends take sts underneath ends of ribs, putting 2 sc across each Narrow Rib and 4 sc across each Wide Rib. Use Color C for sc across ends of center panel. Now work a Wide Rib around entire rug, making first back row in Color C, with both front rows in Color B. Put 5 dc in each corner. Complete Rib in Color B, making sc instead of dc. At corners, go thru the 5 corner dc in front row and down thru the same single corner dc in back row below.
