Bib Collar Pattern #258

Materials:
Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, White, Size 10, 6 balls.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 6.

Right Half: Ch 107, turn. 1st row: 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook, 1 s c in each ch, ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 1 s c in each s c (taking the back loop of st only) to within 1 st from end (for a decrease), ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Skip 1 s c, 1 s c in each s c (taking the front loop only) to end of row, ch 1, turn. The 2nd and 3rd rows form the pattern. Repeat them, decreasing 1 st every row on lower edge of collar, working even at neck, for 11 more rows.

Next row: Increase 1 st at neck every row for 15 rows, continuing to decrease at lower edge for 8 more rows, then decrease 2 sts every row. At neck edge, at end of 29th row, make ch 4 for 3 increases, turn. Skip 1 st and pattern to within 2 sts of end. Continue to decrease 2 sts at lower edge and make 2 more increases of 3 sts at neck (6 sts increased), then ch 40, turn. Skip 1 st, and pattern to within 2 sts of end. Work even at neck and continue usual decreases at lower edge for 3 more rows (39 rows in all), ending last row at neck edge. 40th row: Work in pattern on next 56 s c, ch 1, turn. Work 6 rows on these 56 sts, decreasing 2 sts every row at lower edge and working even at neck. Break thread.

Left Half: Join thread to first row at lower edge, ch 5, * skip 2 sts, 1 d c in next, ch 2, repeat from * to end (35 open spaces), ch 1, turn. 2nd row: * 1 s c over d c, 2 s c into sp, repeat from * to end of row. Work in pattern, making the increases and decreases to correspond to right half. The ridged side is the right side of work. When left half is finished, do not break thread, but turn and work 1 row of s c all around the collar to other end where thread was broken off, ch 5, turn. This row of s c is to even up the irregular edge. Work 1 row of open sps, skipping 1 s c and with ch-1 between. Work 2 rows of s c, and break off.

Turnover Collar: With right side of work facing worker, join thread at end of neck, and work 1 s c in each of next 40 sts, then 1 s c in each row to center (76 s c), work 2 s c in the center open sp, and work other half to correspond (about 154 s c across), ch 1, turn. The next row is the 2nd row of pattern (taking the back loop only), increasing 1 s c at beginning of row and every 10th s c, ch 1, turn. Work in pattern, increasing 1 s c at beginning of every row, with an increase row (every 10th s c) every 3rd row for 2 more times. Then work 9 rows even, 1 row of open sps, and 2 rows of s c to match the rows made around bib front. Make 2 loops on one of back ends, and place 2 buttons on the other end to fasten collar around neck.
