Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Crochet, size 30, White, 4 balls. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 8.

Make a ch slightly larger than neck measurement (about 14 inches). 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook and in each st of foundation ch. Ch. 3, turn. 2nd to 8th rows incl: D c in each d c across, ch 3, turn. (Omit turning ch at end of 8th row.) 9th row: * Ch 4, s c in next d c. Repeat from * to end of row. Turn. 10th row: * Ch 5, s c in next ch loop. Repeat from * to end of row, turn.

11th to 18th rows incl: Make ch loop 1 st longer on each row (that is, ch 6 for the 11th row, ch 7 for the 12th, etc.; 18th row should have ch-13 loops).

19th to 23rd rows incl: * Ch 13, s c in next loop. Repeat from * across. At end of 23 rd row break off. Make 2 ch-loops on neck-band and cover 2 buttons with s c's and sew on to correspond.

To cover buttons, ch 3, join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: 6 s c in ring. 2nd rnd: 2 s c in each s c. Continue around, making increases as necessary to keep work flat. When diameter is same as button to be covered, work 1 rnd even. Put button in and decrease as necessary to make cover fit button.
