Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knit-Crochet, 3 balls of Black and 1 ball of White. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 5 or 6.
With White make a tight ch about 7 inches long. Turn. 1 st row: D c in 7th ch from hook, ch 2, d c in same st. * Skip 2 sts, d c in next st, ch 2, d c in same st. Repeat from * across. End row with ch 2, 1 d c in last st (1 sp). (Work should measure about 6½ inches.) Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Skip 1st sp, * d c over next ch-2 loop, ch 2, d c over same loop. Repeat from * across. End row with ch 2, 1 d c in 3rd st of turning ch-5. Ch 5, turn.
The entire scarf is worked with this same pattern. Continue with White until work measures 2¼ inches. Break off and attach Black and work as before for about 38 inches. Break off and attach White and work 12 more inches. Finish scarf with a 2¼-inch strip of Black. A variety of color combinations may be worked out to ensemble with a costume.
Suggested combinations are: Color 55 Navy Blue and White; 106 Sport Green and 84 Beige; 82 Autumn Glow and 9 Yellow; 126 Spanish Red and Ecru.
