Clark's O.N.T. Knit-Crochet, 6 balls, White.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 5.

Ch 157, turn. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, and d c in each st of foundation ch. Ch 2, turn. 2nd row: S c in 1st d c below. * Ch 8, skip 8 d c in row below, s c in next d c. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: * S c in 1st st of ch-loop, then under loop work 1 half d c, 8 d c, 1 half d c. S c in last ch of same loop. Ch 3, and repeat from * across. After last ch-3, make s c in 2nd st of ch in row below. Ch 2, turn. 4th row: S c over 1st ch-3 of row below, * ch 8, s c under next ch-3 loop, and repeat from * across. 5th row: Same as 3rd. 6th row: Same as 4th, but ch 9 instead of ch 8. 7th row: Same as 3rd, but make 9 d c instead of 8 d c. 8th and 9th rows: Same as 6th and 7th. 10th row: Same as 4th, but ch 10 instead of ch 8. 11th to 18th rows incl: Alternate 3rd and 4th rows, working 10 d c in the 11th row; ch 11 in 12th row; 16 d c in 13th row; ch 12 in 14th row; 18 d c in 15th row; ch 14 in 16th row; 20 d c in 17th row; and ch 16 in 18th row. 19th row: Same as 3rd, but work 22 d c, and omit the ch-3. Finish off and wear as in illustration.
