Potholder Pattern #9443

MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats or Clark's O.N.T. Pearl Cotton, Size 5, 2 balls of Steel Blue and 1 ball of White … Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 … A bone ring … Scraps of white felt.

With Blue, ch 52 (to measure 6½ inches). 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, * half dc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in each of next 3 ch, dc in next ch, half dc in next ch, sc in each of next 3 ch. Repeat from * across, ending with 2 sc. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Work in front loop of this row only. Skip 1st sc, tr in next sc, * dc in half dc, half dc in dc, sc in each of next 3 tr, half dc in dc, dc in half dc, tr in each of next 3 sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Work in back loop of this row only. Sc in each of first 2 tr, * half dc in dc, dc in half dc, tr in each of next 3 sc, dc in half dc, half dc in dc, sc in each of next 3 tr. Repeat from * across, ending with 2 sc. Ch 4, turn. Repeat the 2nd and 3rd rows alternately until piece is square. Break off.
     Attach White to first st of 1st ridge and make sc in free loop of each st across, having wrong side of sc's face foundation chain. Break off. With White, work sc's along free loops of 2nd and 3rd ridges. Break off. Tack together adjacent sts of White rows.
     Cut 2 lambs of the white felt and sew in place. Sew on bone ring.

PADDING … Cut flannel or cotton batting slightly smaller, and lining material slightly larger, than crocheted piece. Place padding between crocheted piece and lining. Turn under edges of lining and sew to edges of crocheted piece with neat over-and-over stitches. For pot holders consisting of 2 crocheted pieces, insert padding between crochet and sew up edges.
