MATERIALS: J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen, 1 ball each of White and Blue … Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 ... A bone ring.

With White work one piece exactly as for Body of No. 9432. With Blue, work 1 more rnd of dc. Break off.

STAR ... 1st rnd: Starting at center ch 4; 9 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st, * 3 sc in next dc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around, ending with 3 sc. Sl st in 1st sc. 3rd rnd: Ch 3, dc in next sc and in each sc around, making 3 dc in center sc of each 3-sc group. Join. 4th rnd: Ch 1, sc in same place as sl st and in each dc around, making 3 sc in center dc of each 3-dc group. Join. 5th and 6th rnds: Repeat 3rd and 4th rnds. Now work points as follows: 1st row: Sl st to center st of next 3-sc group, ch 3, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc make dc in next 2 sc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (2 dc decreased); dc in next 7 sc, holding back on hook the last loop of each dc make dc in next 3 sc, thread over and draw through all loops on hook (2 more dc decreased). Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Skip dec, sc in next 6 dc, skip next dc, sc in next st. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: Make dc in next 3 sc, decreasing 2 dc as before, dc in center sc, dc in next 3 sc, decreasing 2 dc as before. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Sc in last st of previous row. Break off.
     Attach thread to center st of next 3-sc group (where last dc was made on 1st row of point), ch 3 and work another point as before. Work 3 more points.
     Sew star in place. Sew on bone ring.

PADDING … Cut flannel or cotton batting slightly smaller, and lining material slightly larger, than crocheted piece. Place padding between crocheted piece and lining. Turn under edges of lining and sew to edges of crocheted piece with neat over-and-over stitches. For pot holders consisting of 2 crocheted pieces, insert padding between crochet and sew up edges.
