Starting at base, ch 21. 1st row: D c in 6th ch from hook, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in next ch. Repeat from * 4 more times. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 3 s c in each of 5 sps, 10 s c in end sp, 3 s c on other side of each sp. Ch 3, turn. 3rd row: D c in each s c. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: * S c in each of next 4 sts; in next st make s c, ch 3, s c. Repeat from * across. Fasten off. Overlap petals at base and sew, leaving an opening ½ inch in diameter at center.
Center … Ch 12, join with sl st. Hereafter work is done over a cord (or 4 strands of same thread). 1st rnd: 22 s c in ring. Join. 2nd rnd: Make 10 s c over cord, turn; * s c in 2nd s c from hook, s c in each s c across, s c in each of next 2 s c on ring (1 stamen completed), turn; skip 2 s c, s c in next s c (1st s c of stamen), s c in each of next 2 s c, 7 s c over cord only, turn. Repeat from * around until 11 stamens are completed. S c in last s c on ring and break off, leaving a 6-inch length of thread. Thread a needle with this thread and sew together first and last stamens at base. Place this center over petals, and sew in place (see illustration).
