Wider Crochet Edging Pattern #8269
Edging is made of rosette and shamrock motifs, joined while working.
Shamrock Motif … Starting at center, ch 16; in 16th st from hook make s c, ch 15, s c, ch 15 and s c. 1st rnd: Working over a cord (or 4 strands of same thread), make 22 s c in each of 3 loops. 2nd rnd: S c in each st to within last 2 s c of 1st loop, skip 2 s c of this loop and 2 s c of next loop; s c in each s c to within last 2 s c of loop, skip these 2 s c and 2 s c of next loop; s c in each of remaining s c of last loop. Sl st in 1st s c of 1st loop. 3rd rnd: Ch 5, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c, * ch 5, s c in 3rd st from hook (p), ch 2, ch-3 p, ch 2, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c (thus completing a p-loop). Repeat from * 2 more times, make another p-loop, skip 3 s c of this loop and 2 s c of next loop, s c in next s c, ** make a p-loop, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from ** 2 more times, make a p-loop, skip 2 s c of this loop and 3 s c of next loop, s c in next s c; *** make a p-loop, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from *** 2 more times, make a p-loop, s c in 1st loop made (12 p-loops). 4th rnd: ** Ch 5, s c between p's of next loop, turn, sl st in loop, 8 s c in same loop, ch 3, turn; d c in each of 7 s c (a block); ch 2, p, ch 2, s c in same place as last s c, * make a p-loop, s c between p's of next loop. Repeat from * once more. Now repeat from ** around, ending with a p-loop, s c at right upper tip of 1st block made. 5th rnd: ** Make a p-loop, skip 3 d c, s c in next d c, p-loop, s c in front of p of next loop, * p-loop, s c between p's of next p-loop. Repeat from * once more, p-loop, s c at tip of next block. Repeat from ** around, ending with p-loop, s c between p's of 1st p-loop over 1st block. 6th, 7th and 8th rnds: Repeat 4th, 5th and 4th rnds, having 4 additional p-loops on each rnd. Fasten off.
Rosette Motif … Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 5, * d c in ring, ch 2. Repeat from * 4 more times. Join to 3rd st of ch-5 first made. 2nd rnd: In each sp make: s c, half d c, 2 d c, half d c, s c (6 petals). Sl st in 1st s c of 1st petal. 3rd rnd: * Ch 5, s c between s c's of next 2 petals. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, s c in sl st. 4th rnd: In each loop make: s c, half d c, d c, 3 tr, d c, half d c, s c. Sl st in s c of 1st petal. 5th rnd: Ch 5, * s c in next d c, p-loop, skip 3 tr, s c in next d c, p-loop. Repeat from * around, ending with a p-loop, s c in 1st ch-5 loop (12 p-loops). Now work as for shamrock motif to last rnd incl. Do not break off, but turn, sl st to center of next p-loop (between p's) and work along one side only as follows:
1st row: Ch 2, p, * ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 2, s c between p's of next p-loop. Repeat from * across. Repeat this row 3 more times. 5th row: Ch 2, p, ch 2, p, ch 1, s c between p's of 1st loop of 1st motif, ch 2, p, ch 1, s c between p's of next p-loop of 1st motif, and continue thus across. Fasten off. Attach thread to 1st p-loop at opposite side of rosette motif and work to correspond.
Make necessary number of motifs, alternating them for desired length.
Heading … Attach thread to 4th d c of corner block of end motif, and work along 1 long side as follows: 1st row: Ch 8, *** s c in next loop, * ch 5, s c in next p-loop (between p's). Repeat from * to within next corner block, ch 5, s c at tip of block, ch 5, d c in 4th d c of block, ** ch 5, tr in next p-loop. Repeat from ** to within next block, ch 5, d c in 4th d c of block, ch 5. Repeat from *** across. Ch 8, turn. 2nd row: D c in 1st loop, * ch 5, d c in next. Repeat from *. Fasten off.
Scallops … Attach thread to 1st loop following corner block on 1st motif. 1st row: * Make a p-loop, s c between p's of next p-loop. Repeat from * across, ending with p-loop, s c between p's of last p-loop. Turn. 2nd row: Sl st to center of loop (between p's), * make a p-loop, s c in next p-loop. Repeat from * across, ending with s c between p's of last p-loop. Repeat this row once (3 p-loops on last row). Fasten off. Make similar scallop on each motif.
Lower Edge … 1st row: With wrong side of work toward you, attach thread to 4th d c of block of 1st motif, * ch 5, d c in next loop.
