No. 8267 INSERTION 8267-A … Insertion is made of individual rosette and shamrock motifs, joined while working.
Rosette Motif … Starting at center, ch 8, join with sl st. 1st rnd: Ch 6, * d c in ring, ch 3. Repeat from * 4 more times. Join to 3rd st of ch-6 first made (6 sps). 2nd rnd: In each sp make: s c, half d c, d c, 3 tr, d c, half d c, s c (6 petals). Sl st in 1st s c of 1st petal. 3rd rnd: Ch 5, * s c in next d c, ch 5, skip 3 tr, s c in next d c, ch 5. Repeat from * around, ending with s c in 1st loop (13 loops). 4th rnd: * Ch 5, s c in next loop, turn, sl st in loop, 6 s c in same loop, ch 3, turn; d c in each of 5 s c (a corner block), ch 5, s c in same loop as last s c, ch 5, s c in next loop, ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, s c at upper right tip of next block. 5th rnd: ** Ch 5, skip 2 d c, s c in next d c, * ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * 2 more times, ch 5, s c at right tip of next block. Repeat from ** around, ending with ch 5, s c in 1st loop over block. 6th rnd: * Ch 5, s c in next loop, turn, sl st in loop, 6 s c in same loop, ch 3, turn; d c in each of 5 s c (a corner block), ch 5, s c in same loop as last s c; make 4 ch-5 loops. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, s c at tip of 1st block. 7th rnd: * Ch 5, skip 2 d c, s c in next d c; make 5 ch-5 loops, ch 5, s c at right tip of next block. Repeat from * around, ending with ch 5, s c in 1st loop made. Fasten off.
Shamrock Motif … Starting at center, ch 16; in 16th st from hook, make s c, ch 15, s c, ch 15, s c. 1st rnd: Working over a cord (or 4 strands of same thread), make 22 s c in each of 3 loops. 2nd rnd: S c in each s c to within last 2 s c of 1st loop, skip these 2 s c and 2 s c of next loop; s c in each s c to within last 2 s c of loop; skip these 2 s c and 2 s c of next loop; s c in each of remaining s c of last loop. Sl st in 1st s c of 1st loop. 3rd rnd: * Ch 5, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from * 3 more times, ch 5, skip 3 s c of this loop and 2 s c of next loop, s c in next s c, ** ch 5, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from ** 2 more times, ch 5, skip 2 s c of this loop and 3 s c of next loop, s c in next s c, *** ch 5, skip 3 s c, s c in next s c. Repeat from *** 2 more times, ch 5, s c in 1st loop made. 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th rnds: Like last 4 rnds of rosette motif. Do not break off. Join motif to previous one as follows:
Ch 3, s c in 1st loop on one side of 1st motif, * ch 3, s c in next loop on second motif, ch 3, s c in next loop on 1 st motif. Repeat from * across. Fasten off.
Make necessary number of motifs, alternating them for length desired, and joining as before. Be careful to have shamrocks and rosettes placed in same position throughout (see illustration).
Heading … Attach thread to end loop at right and work along one long side as follows: 1st row: Ch 6, * d c in next loop, ch 3. Repeat from * across, ending with d c in last loop. Ch 6, turn. 2nd row: D c in 1st sp, * ch 3, d c in next sp. Repeat from * across. Fasten off. Work opposite side in same way.
EDGING 8267-B … Motifs … Work as for Insertion to last rnd incl. Do not break off, work scallop along next side only as follows: 1st row: * Ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * across (7 loops), turn. 2nd row: Sl st to tip of next loop, s c in loop, * ch 5, s c in next loop. Repeat from * across. Repeat the 2nd row until 1 loop remains. Join motifs on last rnd as for Insertion, alternating motifs as before.
Lower Edge … With wrong side of work toward you, attach thread to 1st loop of 1st scallop and work as follows: 1st row: 4 s c in each sp of each scallop, making 8 s c in sp at tip of each scallop and ch-3 between scallops. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: * S c in each of 7 s c, ch 4, s c in 4th ch from hook (p), s c in each of next 4 s c, ch 10, turn; s c in 4th s c from p, turn; in ch-10 loop make: 3 s c, ch-4 p, (s c, p) 3 times, 3 s c. Repeat from * once more. Now work over tip of scallop as follows: S c in each of next 6 s c, p, s c in each of next 3 s c, ch 10, turn; s c in 3rd s c from p, turn and work over ch-10 loop as before; s c in each of next 7 s c and work other side of scallop to correspond, s c in ch-3 between scallops, s c in 7 s c of next scallop, and continue thus across. Fasten off. Work heading along opposite side as for Insertion.
