Repeat from * until 12 ch-1 sps are made. Ch 3, s c in last s c of this loop. Repeat from ** around other 2 loops. Ch 9, turn. Make half d c in 3rd ch from hook, half d c in each ch across (this is stem). Sl st in ch-3 loop first made. Fasten off. Hereafter work is done in rows instead of rnds. 1st row: Skip 5 ch-1 sps of last loop, attach thread to next sp, ch 9, skip 2 sps, d c in next sp, ch 8, skip 2 ch-1 sps of next loop, d c in next sp, * ch 8, skip 2 ch-1 sps of same loop, d c in next sp.    Make necessary number of motifs for desired length, joining in same way, having all right sides on one side.
