Starting at short end, ch 144 to measure 15 inches. 1st row: Tr in 5th ch from hook and in next 5 ch, * ch 2, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr make d tr in same ch as last tr, skip 5 ch, d tr in next ch, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 2, tr in same ch as last d tr, tr in next 6 ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: * Tr in next 5 tr, holding back on hook the last loop of each st make tr in next tr, d tr in next d tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 5, holding back on hook the last loop of each st make d tr in same d tr, tr in next tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook. Repeat from * across, ending with tr in last 5 tr, tr in top st of ch-4. Ch 7, turn. 3rd row: Holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr make d tr in 1st tr, * skip 5 tr, d tr in next tr, thread over and draw through all loops on hook, ch 2, tr in same tr, 5 tr in next sp, tr in next tr, ch 2, holding back on hook the last loop of each d tr make d tr in same tr. Make a rnd of sc around edges, making 3 sc at corners. Join. Break off.

FRINGE … Cut 2 strands each 2½ inches long. Double these strands, forming a loop. Pull loop through st at one short end. Make a similar fringe in each st across both short ends.
