PLACE MAT (Make 2) … Starting at lower edge, ch 182. 1st row: Tr in 11th ch from hook, tr in next ch, (ch 3, skip 3 ch, tr in next 2 ch) 33 times; ch 3, skip 3 ch, tr in next ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in next tr, (ch 3, sc in next 2 tr) 34 times; ch 3, skip 3 ch, sc in next ch. Ch 7, turn. 3rd row: Tr in next 2 sc, (ch 3, tr in next 2 sc) 33 times; ch 3, tr in next sc. Ch 1, turn. The fast 2 rows (2nd and 3rd rows) constitute the pattern. Work in pattern until 39 rows are complete.

EDGING … 1st rnd: Ch 1, 4 sc in each sp and sc in each st around, making 3 sc in center st of each corner sp. Sl st in 1st sc. 2nd rnd: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc group. Sl st in 1st sc. Break off. 3rd rnd: Attach thread in sc over 3rd tr group to left of any corner, * ch 4, sc in sc over next tr group, (ch 2, sc in same sc) 3 times; ch 4, sc in sc over next tr group, turn. D tr in 1st ch-2 sp, ch 3, 5 d tr in same sp, (ch 3, 5 d tr in next ch-2 sp) twice; ch 3, d tr in same sp, sl st in next ch-4, ch 4, sc in sc over next tr group, turn.
