MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN," Art. A.64: 2 balls of No. 46-A Mid Rose and 1 ball of No. 12 Black ... Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 ... A bone ring.
Starting at pointed end with Mid Rose, ch 2. 1st row: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 3 sc in each sc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Sc in first sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: Sc in next 2 sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next sc, work off next 2 sc as 1 sc (1 sc decreased), sc in next sc, 3 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc. Ch 1, turn. 7th row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 8th row: Mark center sc over previous 3 sc groups, and previous decrease, sc in each sc across, making 3 sc over center sc of previous 3 sc groups and decreasing 1 sc over previous decrease. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 7th and 8th rows alternately until piece measures 6 ¾ inches from pointed end. Now work sc closely around pointed end to opposite side of last row. Join and break off.
RUFFLE ... 1st row: Attach Black to last row and sc in each sc across. Ch 7, turn. 2nd row: Sc in 3rd ch from hook (picot made), * ch 1, dc in next sc, ch 4, sc in 3rd ch from hook (another picot made). Repeat from * across, ending with dc in last sc. Break off. With Black embroider ch sts along each increased section.
TRIM ... With Black make a chain 10 inches long. Sc in 3rd ch from hook, * skip 5 ch, dc in next ch, ch 1, picot, ch 1. Repeat from * across, ending with dc. Break off.
Make another piece 6 ½ inches long, and one piece 2 ½ inches long. Sew in place, spacing evenly apart.
Make other side of parasol the same way, omitting edging at bottom.
HANDLE ... Cut 6 strands of Black each 12 inches long. With Black make a chain 10 ½ inches, do not break off but sc closely around bone ring, sl st in first sc; then, working over 6 strands of Black, make sc in each ch across, 5 sc in last ch, still working over 6 strands, and along opposite side of starting chain, make sc in next 10 ch, sl st in next ch. Break off. Trim strands neatly.

Sew handle securely inside one piece, having doubled end at pointed end of parasol. Sew pieces together.
