MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS "KNIT-CRO-SHEEN," Art. A.64: 1 ball each of No. 1 White, No. 49 Chartreuse Green and No. 126 Spanish Red ... A few yards of No. 12 Black ... Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 7 ... A bone ring.

FRONT—Hat ... Starting at top with Spanish Red, ch 2. 1st row: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: 2 sc in first sc (1 sc increased), sc in next sc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 3rd row until there are 38 sts on last row. Break off and turn.

HEAD ... Attach White to begin­ning of row and continue to work in pattern until there are 46 sts on last row. Work 3 rows without increasing. Inc 1 st at beginning of next 2 rows. Repeat last 5 rows once more. Work without increasing until Head measures 3 ½ inches. Dec 1 sc at beginning of next 6 rows—to dec 1 sc, work off 2 sc as 1 sc—then dec 1 sc at both ends of next 8 rows. Work 3 more rows without decreasing. Break off.

EAR (Make 2) ... With White, ch 16. 1st row: 4 dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in each ch across, 5 dc in last ch. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in first dc, 2 sc in next 3 dc, sc in each dc across to within last 4 dc, 2 sc in next 3 dc, sc in top of starting chain. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Sc in first sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in each sc across to within last 4 sc, 2 sc in next 3 sc, sc in next sc. Break off. Sew Ears in place. With a single strand of Black embroider outline.

NOSE ... Starting at center with Spanish Red, ch 2. 1st rnd: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 2nd rnd: 2 sc in each sc around. 3rd rnd: * 2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Break off. Sew Nose in place.

HAT TRIMMING ... Using a double strand of Chartreuse make a chain 5 inches long. Sc in 2nd ch from hook, draw loop on hook out to meas­ure ½ inch, holding last loop on hook, insert hook in same ch and draw loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops on hook, draw loop on hook out to same height as previous loop (another loop st made). Make 2 loop sts in each ch across, 5 loop sts in last ch; working along opposite side of start­ing chain, make 2 loop sts in each ch across, make 3 loop sts in last ch. Join and break off. Sew Trimming to Hat.

Make another piece, starting with ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook, make 4 loop sts in same place, 4 loop sts in next ch, working along opposite side of starting chain, make 4 loop sts in next 2 ch. Join and break off. Sew to top of Hat.

COLLAR ... Work as for Hat Trim­ming making a chain 3 ¼ inches long. Join and break off. Sew in place.

With Black embroider eyes on Face. With Spanish Red embroider mouth.

BACK ... Work exactly as for Front.

Sew pieces together. With Chartreuse sc closely around a bone ring and sew in place at top of Hat.
