MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 1 ball of White or Ecru will make 2 pot holders, or 2 balls of any color will make 3 pot holders.
Steel Crochet Hook No. 7.

Starting at center, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring. 1st rnd: * Ch 15, sc in 2nd ch from hook, h dc in next ch, dc in each ch across (14 sts), sc in ring. Repeat from * 4 more times (5 points in all). 2nd rnd: Draw loop on hook to height of a dc, * holding back the last loop of each dc on hook, make dc in the base of the first 4 sts of next point; thread over and draw through all loops on hook (3 dc decreased), dc in each st across to turning ch at tip of point; in turning ch make 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc; dc in each st, tr within last 4 sts of this point, work these off as 1 dc, as before (3 more dc decreased). Repeat from * around. Do not join. Hereafter, work only in the back loop of each st. 3rd rnd: Work same as 2nd rnd. 4th, 5th and 6th rnds: Work as for 2nd rnd only work off 3 dc as 1 dc (2 dc decreased instead of 3) at both sides of each point.

7th and 8th rnds: Work as for 2nd rnd only work off 2 dc as 1 dc (1 dc decreased instead of 3) at both sides of each point, making ch 3 instead of ch 2 at tip of each point. 9th rnd: * Work off first 2 sts of next point as 1 st, dc in each st to ch 3, in ch 3 make 3 dc, ch 3 and 3 dc, dc in each remaining st of this point (no dec at this side of point). Repeat from * around, h dc in next st, sc in next st, sl st in next st. Fasten off. Make another piece same as this. Place padding (for padding, see pattern book) between crocheted pieces and sew edges together.

STEM ... 1st row: Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat the 2nd row until piece measures 4 ½ inches. Fasten off.

Fold in half and sew long edges of stem together. Sew ends of stem between 2 points to form loop.
