GAUGE: 8 dc make 1 inch: 3 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at narrow edge, ch 84 to measure 11 inches. 1st row: Dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 8 ch, * (draw loop on hook out to measure ¼ inch, thread over and draw loop through, insert hook between single and double loops and draw thread through, thread over and draw through all loops on hook—knot st made—skip 2 ch, dc in next ch) 3 times; dc in next 9 ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 3, turn. 2nd and 3rd rows: Skip first dc, * dc in next 9 dc, (make a knot st, dc in next dc) 3 times. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 4th row: * (Make a knot st, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc) 3 times; (2 dc under double loop of next knot st, dc in next dc) 3 times. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 5th and 6th rows: * (Make a knot st, dc in next dc) 3 times; dc in next 9 dc. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 7th row: * (Make 2 dc under double loop of next knot st, dc in next dc) 3 times; (make a knot st, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc) 3 times. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd to 7th rows incl until 51 rows have been completed, ending with 3rd row.

EDGING … 1st rnd: Ch 3 and, working across long side, dc closely around, making 5 dc in each corner. Join. 2nd rnd: Ch 3, * make a knot st, skip 2 dc, dc in next dc. Repeat from * across, ending with dc in dc preceding 5-dc group at corner, make a knot st, skip 2 dc, in next dc make dc, knot st and dc. Make a knot st and continue in pattern around, working corners as before. Join. 3rd rnd: Sc in same place as sl st, * make 2 knot sts, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join and break off. Block to measurements.
