Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 2/0 (double zero) and No. 6.

Starting at long side with No. 2/0 hook, make a chain 25 inches long. 1st row: In 2nd ch from hook make sc, ch 2 and sc (shell made); * draw loop on hook out to measure inch, thread over and draw loop through, insert hook between single and double loops and draw a loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops on hook (knot st made), skip 3 ch, in next ch make sc, ch 2 and sc (another shell made). Repeat from * across until row measures 16 inches, ending with a shell. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Shell in sp of first shell, * make a knot st, shell in sp of next shell. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 10 inches. Break off.

EDGING … With No. 6 hook, attach thread to ch where first sc was made, sc in same place, ch 3, * sc in side of next shell, ch 3. Repeat from * across to corner, sc in sp of shell at corner, ch 3, sc in sp of next shell. Continue working across top in this man­ner. Work other short side to correspond. 1st rnd: Sc in each st around 4 sides, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. 2nd to 8th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of each corner. Join. Break off at end of 8th rnd. Block to measurements.
