Milwards Steel Crochet Hooks No. 2/0 (double zero) and No. 6.
Starting at long side with No. 2/0 hook, make a chain 25 inches long. 1st row: In 2nd ch from hook make sc, ch 2 and sc (shell made); * draw loop on hook out to measure inch, thread over and draw loop through, insert hook between single and double loops and draw a loop through, thread over and draw through 2 loops on hook (knot st made), skip 3 ch, in next ch make sc, ch 2 and sc (another shell made). Repeat from * across until row measures 16 inches, ending with a shell. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Shell in sp of first shell, * make a knot st, shell in sp of next shell. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece measures 10 inches. Break off.
EDGING … With No. 6 hook, attach thread to ch where first sc was made, sc in same place, ch 3, * sc in side of next shell, ch 3. Repeat from * across to corner, sc in sp of shell at corner, ch 3, sc in sp of next shell. Continue working across top in this manner. Work other short side to correspond. 1st rnd: Sc in each st around 4 sides, making 3 sc in each corner. Join. 2nd to 8th rnds incl: Sc in each sc around, making 3 sc in center sc of each corner. Join. Break off at end of 8th rnd. Block to measurements.
