Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).

A foam rubber pillow, 22½ x 15 x 3 inches.

Use double strand throughout.

   Starting at narrow end, make a chain 18 inches long. 1st row: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across until row measures 15 inches, having a number of sc divisible by 4 and 3 more at end of row. Cut off remaining chain. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in first sc, * dc in next sc, sc in next 3 sc. Repeat from * across, ending with 1 sc. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. 4th row: Sc in first dc, * dc around bar of dc 2 rows below (raised dc made), skip sc behind raised dc, sc in next sc, dc in next sc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: Sc in each st across. Ch 1, turn. 6th row: Sc in first dc, * dc in next sc, sc in next sc, raised dc around bar of next dc 2 rows below, skip sc behind raised dc, sc in next sc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 3rd to 6th rows incl until piece measures 22½ inches, ending with 4th row. Break off. Make another piece the same way.

GUSSET … Starting at narrow end, ch 16 to measure 2½ inches. Work in pattern until piece reaches around 4 sides of pillow. Break off. Attach thread to wrong side of one long side, sc closely across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: Sc in each sc across. Break off. Work across other long side the same way. Sew narrow ends to­gether. Pin Gusset to one side of pillow. With Gusset facing and working through both thicknesses to join, sc closely around. Join and break off. Insert pillow and join other side to Gusset the same way.
