Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (4 balls) or J. & P. Coats (3 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 30, White. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7.
Make a chain 23 inches long, turn. 1st row: S c in 6th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 2 ch, s c in next ch (s c's are worked rather loosely throughout), repeat from * until 10 small loops are made. Then ch 6, skip 3 ch's, s c in next ch (this is a large loop), ** make 20 small loops, 1 large loop, repeat from ** 2 more times, then 10 small loops (there should be 4 large loops, 3 groups of 20 small loops each, 2 groups of 10 small loops each) ch 4 to turn throughout directions. 2nd row: S c in 1st loop, * ch 3, s c in next loop, repeat from * across, making 5 s c with ch-3 between s c's in each large loop (100 small loops in all). 3rd to 11th rows incl: S c in 1st loop, * ch 3, s c in next loop, repeat from * across (100 loops). 12th row: Make 9 ch-3 loops, 8 ch-4 loops, 17 ch-3 loops, 8 ch-4 loops, 17 ch-3 loops, 8 ch-4 loops, 17 ch-3 loops, 8 ch-4 loops, 9 ch-3 loops (101 loops in all). 13th row: Make 9 ch-3 loops, 9 ch-4 loops, 16 ch-3 loops, 9 ch-4 loops, 16 ch-3 loops, 9 ch-4 loops, 16 ch-3 loops, 9 ch-4 loops, 9 ch-3 loops. 14th row: 8 ch-3 loops, 10 ch-4 loops, 15 ch-3 loops, 10 ch-4 loops, 15 ch-3 loops, 10 ch-4 loops, 15 ch-3 loops, 10 ch-4 loops, 8 ch-3 loops. 15th row: 8 Ch-3 loops, 11 ch-4 loops, 14 ch-3 loops, 11 ch-4 loops, 14 ch-3 loops, 11 ch-4 loops, 14 ch-3 loops, 11 ch-4 loops, 8 ch-3 loops. 16th to 23rd rows incl: Work in this manner thus gradually decreasing the number of the ch-3 loops and increasing the number of the larger loops in the 16th, 17th and 18th rows, making ch-5 loops in place of ch-4 loops. In the 19th, 20th and 21st rows make ch-6 loops in place of ch-5 loops. In 22nd and 23rd rows make ch-7 loops in place of ch-6 loops. In 23rd row there should be left 4 ch-3 loops, 19 ch-7 loops, 6 ch-3 loops, 19 ch-7 loops, 6 ch-3 loops, 19 ch-7 loops, 6 ch-3 loops, 19 ch-7 loops, 4 ch-3 loops. 24th row: Make 3 ch-3 loops, ch 7, 4 d c under next loop (which is the 1st ch-7 loop), * ch 7, 4 d c under next loop, repeat from * until 19 groups of 4-dc are made, then ch 7, s c in next loop (which is a ch-3 loop), then make 5 ch-3 loops, and repeat from * across, ending with 3 ch-3 loops. 25th row: 3 ch-3 loops, ch 7, 4 d c under ch-7 of previous row just before 4-dc group, * ch 7, 4 d c under next loop, repeat from * until 20 groups of 4-dc are made, then ch 7, s c in next loop (which is a ch-3 loop), make 4 ch-3 loops, and repeat from * across, ending with 3 ch-3 loops. 26th, 27th and 28th rows: Work as for 25th row thus gradually decreasing ch-3 loops and increasing 4-dc groups, having 23 groups of 4-dc in each scallop with 1 ch-3 loop between scallops. Break off and work 1 row of s c around neck edge.
Bow. Ch 24, turn. 1st row: S c in 6th ch from hook, * ch 3, skip 2 ch, s c in next, repeat from * until 7 loops are made. Ch 4, turn. 2nd row: Make 3 ch-3 loops across, 1 ch-7 loop, 3 ch-3 loops, ch 4, turn. 3rd row: Make ch-3 loops across, making 8 s c with ch-3 between each s c under ch-7 loop (14 loops in all). 4th to 7th rows incl: Make ch-3 loops. Ch 4, turn. 8th, 9th and 10th rows: Ch-4 loops. Ch 5, turn. 11th to 14th rows incl: Ch-5 loops. Ch 6, turn. 15th to 20th rows incl: Ch-6 loops. Ch 7, turn. Break off at end of 20th row. 21st row: Attach thread to loop of 5th row on side of bow. * Ch 7, 4-dc group in next loop (of 6th row) and repeat thus around, making the last 4-dc group in end loop of 5th row. Ch 7, turn. 22nd to 24th rows incl: * Make 4-dc group under each ch-7 loop, ch 7, repeat from *. This completes half of one bow. Make another half and join at center. Make another complete bow.
Tab. Ch 25, turn. 1st row: D c in 4th ch from hook, d c in each of next 3 ch, * ch 2, skip 2 ch, d c in each of next 4 ch, repeat from * 2 more times. Ch 5, turn. 2nd to 15th rows incl: 4 d c in each sp and ch-2 over each 4-dc.
Starch lightly and press. Place one bow directly over the other bow. Put tab around the bows at center and fasten to one end of collar with a sewing needle and thread. Fasten collar with a snap fastener.
