Whirlpool Collar Pattern #2119

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. (4 balls) or J. & P. Coats (3 balls) Mercerized Crochet, size 50, White. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 10. 2 small snap fasteners and 2 small buttons.

Collar. Ch 23, turn. 1st row: D c in 8th ch from hook, d c in each of next 4 ch, ch 3, skip 1 ch, 3 d c in next ch, ch 2, 3 d c in same ch (a shell), * ch 3, skip 1 ch, s c in next ch, ch 3, skip 1 ch, 3 d c in next ch, ch 2, 3 d c in same ch (another shell), repeat from * once. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Shell over shell, * s c under first ch-3 between first two shells, ch 3, shell over next shell, repeat from * once, then ch 3, 1 d c in each of next 5 d c, ch 3, skip 3 ch of turning ch-8, d c in next. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: 2 d c in 1st d c, 1 d c in each of next 3 d c, 2 d c in next d c, ch 3, shell over shell, * s c  under ch-3 loop, ch 3, shell over next shell, repeat from * once, ch 5, turn. 4th to 9th rows incl: Repeat 2nd and 3rd rows alternately, increasing 1 d c at the beginning of dc-group each row (13 d c in group on 9th row). 10th row: Work as before until the 3 shells are made, then ch 3, 2 d c in 1st d c of dc-group, * ch 1, 1 d c in each of next 2 d c, repeat from * 3 more times, ch 1, d c in each of next 3 d c, 2 d c in last d c, ch 3, skip 3 ch of turning ch-8, d c in next ch. Ch 5, turn. 11th row: 2 d c in each of next 2 d c, 1 d c in next d c, ch 3, shell under next ch-1, * ch 3, s c under next ch-1, ch 3, shell under next ch-1, repeat from * once. Ch 5, turn. Repeat from beginning of 2nd row until 14 points are made. Do not break off. Ch 5, turn, and make d c in 1st d c of group, ch 5, turn and make d c in 4th ch of turning ch-5 and so on for 1 more sp (3 sps in all). Break off. Attach thread to other end and work 3 sps as this. Break off.

Heading. Attach thread to 1st sp at one end, ch 5, and work across the length of collar as follows: D c in end of each row with ch-2 between each d c, thus making sp over sp. Work 3 more rows of sps, then 1 row of s c making 1 s c in each sp and 1 s c in each d c. Break off. Fasten collar with 2 small buttons on one side to correspond with the two end sps on opposite side.

Jabot. Ch 19, turn and work center section of jabot as follows: 1st row: D c in 3rd ch from hook, and in each ch across, ch 3, turn. 2nd to 16th rows incl: D c in each d c of previous row, ch 3, turn. 17th, 18th and 19th rows: D c in each d c but increase 1 d c at beginning and 1 d c at end of each row. 20th to 38th rows incl: Same as 17th row but increasing 1 d c only at the beginning of each row. Break off. Then work shells around this piece as follows: Attach thread to beginning of 17th row and make a shell (as in collar), then, * ch 3, skip 1 row, 1 s c at beginning of next row, ch 3, 1 shell at bottom of same row, repeat from * to corner (9 shells). At corner make 3 d c, ch 3, 3 d c in same place, ch 3, 3 d c in same place. Continue with shells making 6 shells across. Work in corner as in first corner; and work 9 shells along other side to correspond with opposite side. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: Work shells over shells as in collar, making 1 shell under each ch-3 of each corner shell (2 shells in 1 shell of previous row, thus increasing) with no ch between the shells. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: Shells over shells, but make no ch's between the 2 corner shells, Ch 5, turn. 4th and 5th rows: Work as for 2nd row, but having ch 3 between corner shells, ch 5, turn. 6th row: Same as 2nd row, but making a shell between the 2 corner shells with no ch between the shells, thus starting a 3rd shell. Ch 5, turn. 7th row: Same as 6th row with ch 3 between each corner shell. 8th row: Same as last row, at corners making 3 ch, 1 s c under ch-3 of previous row, ch 3, shell over shell, ch 3, s c under ch-3, ch 3, shell over shell. 9th to 13th rows incl: Same as last row making loops (ch 3, and 1 s c) under each ch-3 at corners, thus widening corners. Break off. Sew a snap fastener to each corner of extended d c tab of jabot center, and sew the opposites at the 15th row to correspond. Place this end over buttons on collar and snap together on wrong side.
