Peasant Collar and Cuffs Pattern #2122

Materials: Clark's O.N.T. Knitting and Crochet Cotton or J. & P. Coats Crochet Cord, 1 ball each of Ecru, 55A Dk. Navy, 126 Spanish Red and 9 Yellow. Milward's steel crochet hook No. 7.

Neckband measures 14 inches; cuffs measure 6½ inches.

Collar: Two Side Sections. With Ecru, ch 65, turn. 1st row: 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook, 1 s c in each ch to end. Ch 2, turn. In making up this collar and cuffs it should be remembered to pick up only the back loop of s c—and always ch 2 to turn. 2nd, 3rd and 4th rows: Increase 1 s c at beginning and 1 s c at end of each row (to increase make 2 s c in 1 s c) 1 s c in each s c, ch 2, turn. 5th row: Increase in every 17th s c. 6th and 7th rows: Same as 2nd row. 8th row: 1 s c in each of 12 s c, increase in 13th s c, then increase 1 s c in every 10th s c for 5 times, 1 s c in each of remaining s c. 9th and 10th rows: Same as 2nd row. 11th and 12th rows: Change to Yellow, work increasing 1 s c at beginning and at end of row. 13th row: Change to Ecru, and work same as 2nd row. 14th row: 1 s c in each of 15 s c, 1 s c in same place as last s c, then increase on every 14th s c for 4 times, 1 s c in each of remaining s c. 15th and 16th rows: Change to Red, and work same as 2nd row. 17th and 18th rows: Change to Ecru and work same as 2nd row. Finish off. Make another one the same way.

Center Front and Tab. With Ecru, ch 19, turn. 1st row: 1 s c in each of 18 ch, ch 1, turn. 2nd to 16th rows incl: Same as 1st row. Sl st across 16 rows already completed. Then work 10 rows of s c, with no increases (16 s c). 11th and 12th rows: Change to Yellow, increase 1 s c at beginning and at end of each row from now on until tab is completed. 13th and 14th rows: Change to Ecru. 15th to 20th rows incl: Change to Red. 21st and 22nd rows: Change to Ecru. 23rd to 26th rows incl: Change to Blue. Sl st along top of center front piece and sew on to other parts (the two side sections) of collar. With Ecru, beginning at right side, sl st along short end of collar and make 4 rows of s c, then 3 ch-8 loops with 4 s c between each for buttonholes. Finish off. At left side with Ecru, make 8 rows of s c and finish off. With wrong side of collar towards you, with Blue, work 1 s c in each s c around outer edge of collar, working off 2 s c together at inner corners where collar and tab are joined, and making 3 s c in each outer corner s c of tab. Work one more row of s c's and finish off.

Cuff. With Ecru, ch 26, turn. 1st row: 1 s c in 2nd ch from hook. 1 s c in every ch to end. 2nd row: Increase 1 st at beginning and at end of row. 3rd to 10th rows incl: Same as 2nd row. 11th to 18th rows incl: Work as for 2nd row in the following order of colors: 2 rows of Yellow, 2 of Ecru, 2 of Red, 2 of Ecru. Make other cuff the same.

Center Front and Tab of Cuff: With Ecru, work center front as in collar. Tab is worked in the same way as tab of collar, changing colors to as follows: 2 rows of Ecru, 2 of Yellow, 2 of Ecru, 4 of Red, 2 of Ecru, 2 of Blue. Sew to other parts of cuff. Finish ends of cuffs with buttonholes as in collar. Work 2 rows of s c with Blue on outer edge also, as in collar.

Buttons. With Blue ch 7, join to form ring. Ch 4, make 12 tr in ring and pull loop tightly together with a few s c, to 1st tr made. Make a hard ball of Blue and put into button. Draw work tightly together with a few s c and sew up to a close. Make 18 buttons.

Sew 3 buttons at center front of collar, and 3 at back to correspond with buttonholes; and sew 3 buttons at center of each cuff, and 3 at back to correspond with buttonholes.
