Approximate Size of Mats:
Large – 12 ½ x 9 ½ inches
Small – 11 ¼ x 9 ½ inches

Will make 2 mats.

Mats are worked with a double strand of thread throughout.

LARGE MAT—With White ch 73, s c in 2nd st from hook, * d c in next st of ch, s c in next st of ch, repeat from * to end of row, ending row with d c in last st of ch, ch 1, turn.

2nd Row—* S c in d c, d c in next s c, repeat from * across row, ch 1, turn.

Repeat 2nd row until mat measures 5 ½ inches, always ending row with a d c and ch 1 to turn.

Work a row of s c around entire mat, working 3 s c in each corner, having 70 s c on each long side and 47 s c on each short side, join, break thread.

Attach Red in center st of corner, s c in same space, ch 3, s c in same place, 1 s c in each s c, working all corners same as 1st corner, join.

2nd Row—Sl st into loop, ch 1, s c in same space, ch 3, s c in same space, * 1 s c in each s c to corner loop, 1 s c, ch 3, 1 s c in loop, repeat from * all around ending row to correspond, join.

Repeat 2nd row 14 times.

With White "STAR" Six Strand Embroidery Cotton embroider designs in cross stitch according to chart. Each block of chart equals 2 rows in width and 2 s c in length.

SMALL MAT—With White ch 63 and work in same manner as large mat for 5 ½ inches. Work a row of s c around entire mat, working 3 s c in each corner and 59 s c on each long side and 48 s c on each short side. Attach Red and work same as large mat. Embroider in same manner omitting one design in each long side.
