Will make 3 mats.

LARGE MAT—With White ch 15, 2 d c in 4th st from hook, 3 d c in next st of ch, 1 d c in each of the next 8 sts of ch, 3 d c in each of the next 2 sts of ch, working on opposite side of ch, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 8 sts, 3 d c in next st, join in 3rd st of ch.

2nd Row—* Ch 3, 2 d c in same space, sl st in next d c (slanted shell), repeat from * twice, * ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 d c, sl st in next d c, repeat from * once, * ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 2 d c, sl st in next st, repeat from * once, * ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 d c, sl in next st, repeat from * once, repeat from beginning all around ending row with sl st in 1st st of ch.

3rd Row—* 3 d c in next sl st (shell), sl st in top of next slanted shell, repeat from * all around.

4th Row—Sl st to center d c of next shell, * shell in next sl st, sl st in center d c of next shell, repeat from * all around.

5th Row—Sl st to center of next shell, * 5 d c shell in next sl st, sl st in center d c of next shell, repeat from * twice, * 3 d c shell in next sl st, sl st in center d c of next shell, repeat from * 5 times, repeat from 1st * all around.

6th Row—Ch 1, 3 s c in same space, * skip 1 d c of next shell, 1 sl st in each of the next 3 d c, skip 1 d c, 3 s c in next sl st, repeat from * twice, * sl st in center d c of next shell, 3 s c in next sl st, repeat from * 5 times, repeat from 1st * all around ending row to correspond.

7th Row—Ch 5, skip 1 st, d c in next st, * ch 2, skip 1 st, d c in next st, repeat from * all around ending row with ch 2, join in 3rd st of ch (even number of meshes).

8th Row—Sl st into mesh, ch 5, d c in next mesh, * ch 2, d c in next mesh, repeat from * all around ending row with ch 2, join in 3rd st of ch.

9th Row—5 d c shell in next d c, sl st in next d c, repeat from beginning all around, break yarn. The pattern is darned in working over 1 d c and under the next d c. Reverse the over and under of every other strand of yam.

1st Mesh—1 strand Blue, 1 strand Yellow, 1 strand Green and 1 strand Black.

2nd Mesh—1 strand Black, 1 strand Green, 1 strand Blue, 1 strand Yellow, 1 strand Red and 1 strand Black.

MEDIUM MAT—With White ch 11, 2 d c in 4th st from hook, 3 d c in next st of ch, 1 d c in each of the next 4 sts of ch, 3 d c in each of the next 2 sts of ch, working on opposite side of ch, 3 d c in next st, 1 d c in each of the next 4 sts, 3 d c in next st, join.

2nd Row—* Ch 3, 2 d c in same space, sl st in next d c, repeat from * once, * ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 d c, sl st in next d c, repeat from * once, ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 2 d c, sl st in next d c, * ch 3, 2 d c in same space, skip 1 d c, sl st in next d c, repeat from * once, repeat from beginning all around ending row with sl st in 3rd st of 1st shell.

3rd Row—Same as 3rd row of large mat.

4th Row—Ch 1, 3 s c in same space, * sl st in center d c of next shell, 4 s c in next sl st, repeat from * 6 times, sl st in center d c of next shell, 3 s c in next sl st, * sl st in center d c of next shell, 4 d c in next sl st, repeat from * all around, join in 1 st s c. Continue from the 7th row of large mat.

SMALL MAT—Work same as 1st 3 rows of Medium Mat. Omit the 4th, 5th and 6th rows, then work the remainder in same manner as large mat.
