Clark's O.N.T. Mercerized Gimp, 3 tubes of any color.
Milward's steel crochet hook No. 4.

Ch 48 to measure about 7 inches. 1st row: S c in 2nd ch from hook, s c in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. 2nd row: S c in each s c. Ch 1, turn. 3rd row: * S c in next 3 s c, tr in next s c. Repeat from * across, ending with s c in last 3 s c. Ch 1, turn. 4th and all even rows: S c in each st. Ch 1, turn. 5th row: S c in 1st s c, * tr in next s c, s c in next s c; thread over, insert hook under bar of next tr on 2nd row and complete as for a d c; skip s c behind d c just made, s c in next s c. Repeat from * across, ending with tr in next s c, s c in last s c. Ch 1, turn. 7th row: * S c in next 3 s c, thread over, insert hook under bar of d c of 4th row and complete as for a d c; skip s c behind d c just made. Repeat from * across, ending with s c in last 3 s c. Ch 1, turn. 9th row: S c in 1st s c, * tr in next s c, s c in next 3 s c. Repeat from * across, ending with tr in next s c, s c in last s c. Ch 1, turn. 11th row: * S c in next s c, d c around bar of next tr, skip s c behind d c just made, s c in next s c, tr in next s c. Repeat from * across, ending with d c around bar of tr, s c in last s c. Ch 1, turn. 13th row: S c in 1st s c, * d c around bar of next d c, skip s c behind d c just made, s c in next 3 s c. Repeat from * across, ending with d c around bar of next d c, skip s c behind d c just made, s c in last s c. Ch 1, turn. 14th row: S c in each st. Ch 1, turn. Repeat 3rd to 14th rows incl. 3 more times. Then work 1 more row of s c. Fasten off. Make another piece like this.
   Sew pieces together with over-and-over stitches. For loop, ch 36; d c in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. Fasten off. Fold piece in half and sew the 2 ends to 1 corner of pot holder.
